Brief loss of lighting during Padres vs Athletics creates stunning spectacle at Petco Park

SAN DIEGO — A momentary loss of lighting at Petco Park as the San Diego Padres took on the Oakland Athletics created quite the sight on Monday night.

During the 7th inning, some stadium lights abruptly turned off as thousands of fans waited in the stands and players stood on the field in darkness. The stadium lighting malfunction was brief, but it lasted long enough to create quite an unexpected spectacle.

Thousands of fans began shining their cell phone flashlights, singing along to one of Journey’s biggest hits.

The cause for the loss of lighting on the field is unknown. But the moment created memories for Padres fans at Petco Park on Monday night.
